Psychotherapy
At Summit Psychology, we offer evidence-based psychotherapy for adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges. Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, or emotional overwhelm, therapy provides a space to explore what is happening for you and begin to move forward with clarity and support.
Our approach is collaborative and grounded in respect for your individual needs. Together, we tailor a plan using well-established therapeutic frameworks, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based strategies, and practical coping tools. Sessions are paced to suit your preferences and comfort. For some people, this might involve structured strategies for managing specific symptoms. Others may prefer a more open-ended space for reflection and insight.
We understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, particularly when life already feels heavy or uncertain. Our aim is to offer a calm, supportive, and affirming environment where you feel heard and supported. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin. Many people come to therapy unsure of where to start, and that is completely okay. We will work together to understand what is going on beneath the surface and explore meaningful ways to support change.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, trauma-informed therapy that helps people recover from distressing memories or experiences that continue to impact daily life. At Summit Psychology, EMDR is one of our core approaches, used to support adults experiencing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, low self-worth, or long-standing emotional distress.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR does not require you to revisit every detail of a traumatic experience. It uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, to help the brain reprocess memories that feel stuck or emotionally charged. Over time, these memories become less distressing and easier to carry, allowing you to feel more present and in control.
EMDR may be helpful for:
-
Single-event trauma such as accidents or assaults
-
Ongoing or complex trauma
-
Anxiety, panic, or hypervigilance
-
Shame, self-criticism, or negative beliefs
-
Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories
You remain in control throughout the process. We take time to ensure you feel safe, prepared, and supported before and after each session. Many people describe EMDR as leading to deeper and longer-lasting changes than other therapies they have tried.
If you are curious about EMDR and whether it is right for you, we can discuss how it might support your therapy goals.

Medicare Rebates
Accessing Medicare Rebates
To access Medicare rebates for your psychology sessions, you will need a referral from your GP. This involves making an appointment with your GP to discuss your mental health concerns and requesting a Mental Health Care Plan.
Once a Mental Health Care Plan has been completed, your GP can refer you for psychological support. This plan allows you to claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. As of 1 July 2025, the current rebate for a general psychologist is $98.95 per session.

Typically, referrals are made in two parts: an initial referral for six sessions, followed by a review with your GP who may then provide a further referral for an additional four sessions.

If you are unsure about this process or need help navigating it, feel free to get in touch and we can guide you through the next steps.
